Lasha Shamatava is a highly qualified researcher and expert in the fields of international relations, geopolitics, and democratic governance. Since 2020, he has served as the founder and president of the Center for International Policy Research and Forecasting (CIPRF). In this role, he plays a key part in analyzing regional and global political processes, conducting strategic research, and assessing the challenges of democratization.
His research interests encompass a wide range of critical and theoretically significant topics, including international relations and politics, the international political order, global governance, political systems and ideologies, democratic models of governance, political culture, elites, state security, and the geopolitics of the post-Soviet space. He places particular emphasis on recent Georgian history, democratization and transformation theories, political polarization, and the interplay between globalization and nationalism.
From 2019 to 2023, Lasha earned his PhD in Political Science from Caucasus International University. His doctoral dissertation explored the problems and prospects of political development in post-Soviet Georgia — a topic that contributes substantially to the understanding of Georgia’s ongoing political transformation.
Earlier in his academic journey, between 1990 and 1995, he completed both bachelor's and master’s equivalent studies at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University in the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, specializing in the mathematical, software, and network support of computer systems. Additionally, from 1993 to 1996, he completed studies in English Language at TSU’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities, equipping him with strong international communication skills.
Lasha Shamatava is a rare example of a scholar who successfully integrates technical, humanistic, and social science knowledge, making his research and analytical work both diverse and deeply interdisciplinary.
